Soccer continues to bring lots of joy for Caleb as we went to the club presentation morning. I found it all a little odd that we are encouraged to not keep score at the games (even though the kids do and they know if they won or not) that it is not about competition but about having fun (great in theory but everything in life is about competition and there are winners and losers and the kids know this already)Now I think it is awesome that Caleb has a trophy (sorry 2 trophies) I guess I just don't understand the way our society is setting all our children up for being winners, without necessarily the work that goes with winning. Is it going to be harder when reality sets in?
But the reality of the morning was that Caleb had a great time and got another trophy and a shirt, ball and bag to play with. He loves the game of soccer and it will continue to be something he strives for in the future. I am sure there will be many trophies to come in the future too.
