Playing in the Creek

We went off to explore the creek which was a little more flooded than we expected but faced the kids with some challenges (and some for the Mummies too).

Caleb explored climbing up this log and was quite tentative to start with and he lost his balanced and slid into the water. He faced a moment of shock and then put his head down and swam to the side. (Mummy had moments of panic) I was proud of him for not panicing and for doing exactly what he needed to do even though Deanna and I were both about to jump in after him.

He showed a persistence going back and trying it again and again after too.

Mummy also let go a little and trusted his ability and his resolve on if he could manage it or not.

Moving back up the creek a bit was rushing water which the children all enjoyed throwing rocks into. The discussions began over how the water was pushing rather large rocks further into the water after they had been dropped in and of course led to who could find and carry the biggest rocks and would they stay or get washed away.

This all turned a little bad when little brother's and sisters get in on the act and coming in over the top of others with Big Rocks!

So when all goes pear shaped one should go find a tree to climb or some clams to collect.

I was not impressed however to find the clams the next day in a snaplock bag with water and sand added to keep them alive. I was even less impressed to have them presented to me a week later after they had sat in the sun in the cubby with the statement "Mummy these smell really bad". The tears that followed as we placed them in the bin only meant that I had to promise another days adventure to the creek sometime soon.
